Eligibility policy

In order to take courses from AET web servers students must live in one of our covered countries. The list of countries may change from time to time, without notice. But if a country is removed from the list, those students who live in that country who have enrolled in a course already may continue and complete the course. The current list of countries includes Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Haiti, Jamaica, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom, United States, and Uruguay.
Age restrictions: all students must be 17 years of age or older. For certificate programs (level 2-4 courses), students may not be older than 48, unless they have a special waiver agreement.

Passing a course, and retaking courses

The facilitators of the courses determine whether or not a student has passes the course. Only those students who pass the course, and all such students, will receive a certificate of completion, in the form of a pdf file that is printable by the student. While the facilitators make the final decisions on pass or fail, as a rule of thumb, students should get at least 80% of the answers on their final exam correct. Some courses are preparation for external exams, such as the NABCEP certifications, and the requirements to pass them are set by external authorities.
If a student does not pass the final exam, they are allowed to retake the course, free, within the time frame allowed for that course. (depends on the level and length of the course). For many courses, the time limit for receiving facilitator help, including exam correction is 90 days.

Withdrawal from a course and Refund Policy
IF a student wishes to withdraw from a course for any reason, they need to email the facilitator and request a withdrawal form. In order to receive money back, this must happen within the first ten days after enrollment in the course. The refund will be 70% of the fee paid by the student, if the withdrawal is recorded during the ten day period. After ten days, no refund will be offered.

Access to Facilitators

Access to facilitators is by email only, unless the facilitator elects to contact the student by other means (Skype or phone). If the facilitator’s time is abused by the student, facilitators have the right to block said student from further communications. The maximum number of emails allowed per student, per month, is 12. Additional email questions after 12 will be answered by the facilitator in the following month, provided that there is another month within the course time limit. Some of our facilitators are extremely busy, as they are consultants to government and companies within the industry. Please respect this fact and be patient to wait of the response to your questions.

Unless otherwise noted in the course descriptions, all self-paced level one courses include access to facilitator for six weeks, all self-paced level two courses for 12 weeks, and self-paced level 3 courses for 8 weeks. That means that if you want to pass the course and get the certificate, you need to take the final exam before the end of the final week. it can take up to 72 hours to get your final exam corrected and the certificate issued. So take the exam by the 4th day of the final week. Some courses may not be self-paced, and the time limits will be different for them.

Guarantees: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES does Academy for Ecological Transition guarantee that a student will acquire an internship or a job after earning a certificate. However, we try very hard to place every student in either an internship or a job, according to the recommendations of their career coach. We have over a dozen sources of internships and jobs that we will scan through, and each student will be building a profile as they go through our program, which can be converted into a digital resume after graduation. In addition, our community lab projects give students the opportunity to earn letters of recommendation and third party testimonials to their skills and abilities. All of these are integrated into our educational structure.
Industry-specific Legal Compliance: Academy for Ecological Transition offers level three courses that introduce students to the regulations in certain countries that regard the installation of building energy-related equipment, including safety regulations, electrical codes, and plumbing codes. These courses are introductory, and do not give a thorough coverage of such codes. It is for this reason that graduates are preferably placed in internships, allowing them to learn more about the regulations that apply to their chosen field of endeavor. AET does not claim to offer exhaustive or comprehensive coverage of local regulations, and it is the responsibility of each student to find out what regulations apply to their chosen field and to any specific job that they decide to take. While we give introductions to the electrical code and plumbing code in certain countries, there are other regulations, including licensing regulations for working in residential homes, insurance requirements, tax requirements, and other licenses and regulations that may apply, depending on where the student lives and where they set up their practice or get a job. We highly recommend that students join the local union or professional association related to their chosen industry and job, as these organizations provide more comprehensive guidance on local regulations than our academy can offer. Another option for those who wish to start their own business in the USA, is to acquire a SCORE counselor from the SBA, who can advise entrepreneurs on legal, tax, and insurance compliance issues.

Some of our courses are Sponsored Courses. That means that while the student enrolls and pays for the course on our web site, the actual course is managed by another organization. In this case, the external organization, and not AET, is responsible for fulfilling all the services listed as part of the course package. Our withdrawal policy, as listed above, may not apply in these cases. We will try to help students who have problems to withdraw from these courses and get refunds if appropriate, but we do not guarantee this is possible with sponsored courses. We do guarantee that sponsored courses can be re-taken until the student passes the course, at no extra cost. And we assure our students that we choose only the finest courses to sponsor.
